Who Controls our Lives? Us or the Government?

Can anyone tell me where the local, state or federal government doesn’t have control over our/your business or personal lives?

Isn’t the government just about everywhere except the bathroom?  Hum…. let me think, maybe in the politically correct toilet paper, water saving faucets and toilets, electricity (environmentally incorrect) hand blow driers or, worse yet,  tree destroying paper towels.

Don’t even bring up AIR because the government is working with the EPA and United Nations to make sure our air is taxed and controlled too!

Oops I might have over stepped my thoughts!

Fiscal Cliff

Don’t you just love politicians? How many times do we have to listen to the disagreements about the fiscal cliff? How many years and band-aids? And, now, us citizens are going to have to deal with the lame duck session! Whoopee!

The blame game begins. What have either of the parties done for us (citizens) except take our hard earned cash and spend more money? These guys and gals working up on Capital Hill are so protected from everything. They don’t have to follow the rules they hand down for us, they have made themselves exempt.

So, my thought. Let the damn fiscal cliff hit. What the heck, I would sooner have it hit earlier than later because the economy is been going downhill fast and isn’t going to be any better in 2013 anyway. Then maybe somebody up in the Congress will get their butts in gear. (Only wishful thinking here.)

You’ve got the Federal Reserve printing QE Forever which has caused the world monetary system to down grade the U.S. triple A rating.

Prices going up, up, up. When was the last time anyone on the Hill went to a grocery store to do their own shopping?

Unions ruling the roost for all of their benefits. Bankrupting large cities and even some states teetering. Quite frankly I don’t want the government to give them bailouts because they are to big to fail, but they (politicos) will, what is new? How many taxpayer dollars will it take to bail out the “to bigs to fail”  before citizen taxpayers out there realize it is OUR money those crooks on the Hill are spending?

So what the heck, I say go for it you Political a$$holes. You’ve got yourself and your political buddies covered. Just go ahead and screw us little guys with your regulations, affordable health care, meanwhile taking our civil liberties away, and at every turn making us go through security check points and personal encroachment for our OWN protection.

These Politicos haven’t been able to come up with a budget for three and a half years so what makes anyone think they can come up with a solution to the Fiscal Cliff? Plus, we might never see a real budget again.

Sooner or later, maybe, some normal people will get a slap in the face and wake up. My fear is probably never because the News Media is just as corrupt and they have the crooked politicians backs.

I’ve saved my whole life and with a government like ours I’ll probably end up penniless begging for one meal a day! Oh, with no trans-fat, salt, sugar or anything else in the food chain they want to turn into ethanol and deem bad food for me. But beggars can’t be choosers, can we?

So you Capital Hill Politicians, let the damn Fiscal Cliff begin!!

Black Walnut Ice Cream

What ever happened to Black Walnut Ice Cream?  High’s Ice Cream Shops used to carry Black Walnut ice cream but most of the stores around here have closed their doors.  I wish they would come back to town.  I wonder if anyone else makes black walnut ice cream?  Hummmmm  I’ll have to search the web.

Quality Control in your Undies!

OK, lets talk Quality Control.  What happened to it?

I’ve decided that there isn’t much when it comes to underwear. And, yes, you could consider this a rant.

Some years ago I was always pleased with a product that I purchased made by Maiden Form.  But things always seem to be changing and they no longer made my cute undies with one hundred percent cotton and due to medical reasons I had to find underwear from another company.  I really needed more than a cotton liner.

You would think this would be an easy task. NOT!

I have wasted a lot of money on briefs, trying to find a product that fits well.  I’m not a rich person and am pretty frugal so I cannot justify buying underwear that sells in department stores to the tune of 7.00 to 10.00 a pair!  I go with the 6 packs.  Now, in the old days if there was a Name Brand company on the package like Hanes, Jockey or even JC Pennies brand Underscore you would assume that there is a certain amount of quality control that these name brand companies would demand.  Even if they are no longer manufactured in the USA.

I am totally disappointed with companies that are touting their glorious names and give us crap!  Briefs are supposed to be briefs not a high rise leg cut.  Side seams are twisted and crooked.  The Jockey, Hanes and Underscores are packaged fine but just wait till you wash them.  Of course, if you wash them you cannot take them back to the place of purchase and complain!  Finding an affordable 100% cotton brief, That Fits Properly, is nearly impossible.  Quality has been lost in this country.

It is a sad day when these big name companies just ride on their laurels and never bother to make the quality of their product a priority!

Herman Cain – Poser

Herman Cain Poser

Let me begin by saying I have always been an independent voter.  I say this so you know that I don’t have any favorites in the race for President in 2012 as yet.

My first thought when the Herman Cain hoopla hit the fan was “Why isn’t the Media mentioning the Corporate Insurance”? Listening to media outlets is worse than reading an Enquirer (heck the Enquirer has been sued so many times I might even believe them more).  Talk about misleading sensationalism.  I really don’t know if these allegations are warranted or not.  But…

Why would I have an opinion?

Because I’ve been involved with something similar.  It wasn’t an accusation of sexual misconduct but it certainly involved lawyers and insurance companies.  In a nutshell, when I was working at a hair salon, my client said she had fallen in a small puddle of water that was on the floor.  This was during Xmas holidays so the shop was full and we were enjoying food and festivities.  She had been sitting in a shampoo chair and said when she stood she said she had slipped and fallen in said water!  We found none.

Anyway,  all of us were concerned and we wanted to know if she was all right.  Even though she was cradling her arm and said it only ached a little she refused our offers to call 911 for an ambulance, we offered to drive her to hospital and she wouldn’t even have an aspirin!  My client had come in for a permanent wave and, by golly, she was going to receive her perm today.  At one point she even got belligerent.

I proceeded with the permanent, which usually takes three hours.  She finally calmed down and even ate and enjoyed the festivities.  We finished the perm and she got into her car and drove herself home.  I know because I called her to make sure she got home safely.  I had bad vibes, none the less, so I made notes of the events on her record.  She had been my client for 8 years.

Two weeks later the owner of the Shop got a letter from a lawyer representing my client who placed a lawsuit against the owner’s insurance for my client’s broken arm!!  The client  just confirmed my suspicion when she called me at home and hinted to me that I should back up her story.  I was livid.  I figured if her arm was broken there might have been some real pain, swelling to her arm, fingers or hands after sitting for a three hour permanent wave!  She left our shop perfectly happy.

Now, the conclusion of this story.  Two years of litigation between the lawyers and the Shop’s insurance company.  Many phone calls to myself and the owner from both sides of the litigation.  The lawyers, in the end, told me that she had changed her story three times and knew she had been lying.  We had not varied our story of the event, ever. (As Judge Judy says:  Its hard to remember a lie but easy to remember the truth.)

Guess what?  They settled with her!  No matter what the truth!  Just to expensive after two years of paper work.  We, at the Shop, were in total shock.  The only thing that made us feel better was to know she didn’t receive a dime.  No cash.  The insurance company gave the money for her doctor’s appointments (trying to find something wrong) to Medicare!

This story has nothing to do with Herman Cain but I, certainly, can relate to the way these claims of improprieties might have been handled.  Since this story came out, it was refreshing to hear one or two in the media mention the Insurance Settlement quandary.

Could it be that Herman Cain is becoming a threat to the congressional establishment, Republicans and the Democrats alike?  How many more women will come out and claim sexual indiscretions now that the two original ladies have declined to go public?

Toilet Paper – Poser

OK, so lets talk…

Toilet Paper!

Do Manufacturers actually think we were born yesterday?  With, maybe, NOT an observant bone in our bodies!  I have been buying Quilted Northern Toilet Tissue for a very long time because when I started buying it there was quality and the price per square sheet was the best compared to all the other brands.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I still like the quality of the toilet tissue and still purchase Northern.

It is just that I really resent the CON.  Go up on the price, that is normal and I can handle that.  Being up front and honest about a price change doesn’t bother me.  What bothers me is that whoever works for Northern Marketing thinks they are slick when they get double the money by making the cardboard roll, that holds the tissue, larger too!  I measured an older cardboard tube and it measured approximately 44 centimeters then I measured the new cardboard tube and that measured approximately 47 centimeters!

In my book they may not be getting double the total price  (I haven’t measured the sheets lost.)  but to give less per roll and go up on the cost sure isn’t hurting their net profit!

Example:  Back in the day there used to be small, medium and large eggs.  Manufacturers realized that the small eggs weren’t selling as well so they reclassified the eggs to medium, large and extra-large.  And then came the JUMBO.   Ha ha ha, a chicken can only lay an egg just so big.  Get it any bigger and you will get a goose egg!!! Then think about it…. What happened to the small egg?  They are still there but now they are called mediums.  When was the last time you saw “small” eggs for sale at a grocery?

Think about it big manufacturing boys, we buyers do know what your up to.  I would just prefer you be upfront and honest and just put the higher price on your products.  Don’t use the little increment cons.

Don’t get me started on canned products, those guys are just as bad!  BP is going down now.  Have a great day.
