Global Pollution – Poser

Are China and many other Asian Countries (who now manufacture for the global market place) under the same high standards as North America to protect us against air pollution?
If they are not, doesn’t all that pollution go into the atmosphere?   Doesn’t the pollution float up into the atmosphere and then follow the winds? Wind usually travels west to east unless you are under the equator. Say directly to North American?
I remember when Mt. St.Helen erupted, pollution spread very far and wide didn’t it?   The ash and fumes went up into the winds. If we cannot control the pollutants coming at us from foreign lands, how can we, in the US and Canada, protect everyone on the planet from global warming?

Poser – Auto Emmissions – New Standards

I heard that the new administration is going to require new standards for automobiles as part of their bailout package to American car manufacturers, i.e. the big three.

If existing standards have been in place since the 1970’s then how come I still find myself driving behind trucks, buses and diesel equipment, that still stink and produce fumes? If the current standards haven’t been implemented, in many instances, why would we need more?

Why are car owners the first to get hit with the bill?  Extra manufacturing costs always get passed down to the consumer.
Shouldn’t they be focusing on better gas mileage?
