Since planting at this time of year is just impossible and too cold we thought we would share just a few pictures of the yard decorations for the holidays. Boring to many but fun for us.
First is the row of Azaleas
Front View of House
Dorky compared to many but it is fun to decorate anyway!
It was a very tough decision to make, as it was one based on views, videos that touched on the key major points about OLA (www.onlineauction.com) , as well as entertainment value . There were so many great videos submitted by our users, unfortunately, any that contained copyright (music) material would not be eligible to win the grand prize.
We not only had staff participate, but the public in our Monday morning meeting, to establish a vote for the winner. It was a deadlock tie three times! We finally came up with an idea to see if the two people who received equal amount of votes would be interested in splitting the grand prize money. We had a 3 way conference call at this point and both users very happily, and I might add excitedly, agreed to split the grand prize money of 5,000 dollars!
The folks at www.OnlineAuction.com had a real challenge deciding the winner of November’s prize. There were 14 entries in the month of November, one more clever than the next.
What an exciting evening, the members of OLA probably rocked the boat at Talkshoe – www.talkshoe.com – this is an interactive radio/phone/chat format! Many members of Ola, guests and some Ola folks who called in to listen by phone because they could not receive the broadcast via computer with their dial up service.
Our fabulous host Dave, McButtons, White hosts this show as well as running ECMRN. Dave pretty much took a step back to let Chris Fain, CEO of www.onlineauction.com respond to a very well composed letter by one of Ola’s concerned members, Stuffgottago. Stuffgottago wrote a letter to Chris Fain and then posted said letter in the Ola Chat area for all to read. Needless to say, this caused some pros and cons from members, as do many such letters when posted in public forums. But Chris, admirably, took the opportunity to respond, via this internet radio broadcast, to many of Stuffgottago’s concerns.
Some of the concerns Stuffgottago had were RSS Feeds to Google, Verified Buyers, Featured Items Scroll, Scrolling when searching, Invoicing, Google checkout, Completed auctions, Auto relist, Reliable templates and Advertising.
Chris tried to address each issue, paragraph by paragraph. One of the first things was the way Featured Auctions rotated on the Home Page. This had been changed earlier on the day of this broadcast. Verified Buyers will no longer be limited to a thousand dollars spending a day. The limit will be changed to ten thousand. They will be looking into making it easier to sign up and not be taken away from the item search page. Better google checkout instructions updates. Auto relist for fixed price sales. Future outlook might make an end it early button on the listings.
Chris brought James McCalister, one of our IT guys, by to help explain some of the complexities of google feeds. That is why they started the new Affiliate program, free to members. This program will help generate some internet advertisement. Plus, you can earn $36.00, from anyone that clicks on your affiliate banner and joins OLA as a founding member!
This banner was donated and designed by Ola member BeverlyJ.
A friend sent me this video by Fred Thompson. My sentiments about the economy of today were expressed well. Fred pretty much took the words right out of my mouth! Funny and sarcastic.
Thanksgiving has come and gone. Now, Christmas is just around the corner. The shopping season started in overdrive with Black Friday through Cyber Monday sales. If you didn’t go shopping at OLA, (www.onlineauction.com) you missed out on some fabulous deals!
Since eBay has made so many changes to its site over the last year, many many sellers with great deals have had to move on to different venues or open their own Internet stores. Unfortunately, since so many shopping sites are springing up, it is really hard for shoppers to find one location that has auctions as well as store fronts all rolled into one.
There is one established site and it is OLA. You only have to join and you can shop up to $1,000 a day as a Basic Member. Some shoppers and new sellers have been confused by the Verified Buyer but that is only needed If you are interested in purchasing weapons, real estate or many high ticket items. Not really necessary for the casual Christmas shopper.
Come and enjoy the great deals and holiday specials sellers are having and, if you enjoy just the great old auction format, you will find those at OLA too!
(This writing has no structure, it was meant to be an “Automatic Writing” exercise. Don’t get too frustrated reading it.) Knowing that the event would be coming to an end very soon, and that I needed to experience this NYC happening first hand, so that I would be able to reflect on it in a wacky [...]
Gus Goes Hunting ! Howdy folks, So now that I am in school again, I had this lil’ homework assignment. To make a 30 second animation in After Effects, to be used in an “Exquisite Corpse” game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exquisite_ corpse). Well, the idea for this came to me in the morning on a Thursday, I had the whole [...]
